Bang Po lies on Koh Samui’s north-west coast, between Nathon and Maenam, and it has kept a character the busier east coast lost long ago. The beach is long and quiet, lined with local seafood restaurants and a few relaxed beach clubs, and the evenings are known for their sunsets across the water.

It is a residential rather than a resort area. Nathon, the island’s administrative town and ferry port for the mainland, is about ten minutes away, and Maenam’s beach and schools a little further along the coast. Santiburi golf course and one of the island’s best-known luxury resorts are nearby. The trade-off is distance from the airport and from Chaweng, both a drive of twenty-five minutes or more, which many buyers here see as the point rather than the problem.
